Remove BG Video

How-to · Chroma key

Replace the background in your editor

Remove BG Video gives you the subject on solid green. The last step — swapping that green for a new scene — happens in your video editor with a chroma-key effect. Here is the general method.

Create a green-screen clip

In short

  • Put the new background on the lower track and the green-screen MP4 above it.
  • Apply your editor's chroma key (or "remove colour") effect and pick the green.
  • Adjust tolerance and edge softness until hair looks natural.
  • Use spill suppression to remove green tint on edges.

General chroma-key steps

  1. Import the green-screen MP4 and your new background.
  2. Stack them: background below, subject above.
  3. Apply chroma key to the subject layer and sample the green.
  4. Refine tolerance, edge feather and spill until the edges look clean.

Matching the new scene

Pick a background with light coming from a similar direction as your footage, and match its colour temperature. A slight blur on the background helps the subject sit in front of it.
